Synopsis/Plot
CHiPS is a 2017 American action comedy film directed and written by Dax Shepard, based on the 1977–1983 television series of the same name created by Rick Rosner. The film stars Shepard as Officer Jon Baker and Michael Peña as Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers who have very different personalities but must work together to uncover a complex crime.
The story begins with Jon Baker, a former professional motocross racer, joining the California Highway Patrol in order to help rebuild his marriage with his wife Karen. He is partnered with Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, an undercover FBI agent who is investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be connected to a corrupt CHP officer. As the two work together to solve the case, they must also learn to get along and rely on each other despite their differences.
The movie is filled with action and comedy as the two officers find themselves in all sorts of trouble. Along the way, they encounter a variety of colorful characters, from a shady mechanic to a mysterious biker gang. The movie also features a host of cameos from original CHiPs cast members, including Erik Estrada
