Synopsis/Plot
Chicago is a 2002 musical film based on the stage musical of the same name. It is set in the 1920s and tells the story of two aspiring performers, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, who are both accused of murder. The film follows their trials, as well as the attempts of their lawyer, Billy Flynn, to get them acquitted.
Roxie Hart is a young woman who dreams of becoming a famous vaudeville performer. When her husband, Amos, discovers her affair with another man, he shoots the man dead. Roxie is arrested and sent to prison where she meets Velma Kelly, a former vaudeville star who is also accused of murder. The two become unlikely friends, and with the help of Billy Flynn, they attempt to get their charges dropped and their freedom.
The film is filled with musical numbers and dance sequences, as well as a stellar cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, and John C. Reilly. With its witty dialogue and catchy songs, Chicago is a classic musical that will have you tapping your toes and singing along.
