Synopsis/Plot
Cheyenne Autumn is a 1964 American Western film directed by John Ford. The film tells the story of a group of Northern Cheyenne people who are attempting to return to their home in Montana from their exile in Oklahoma. The film stars Richard Widmark, Carroll Baker, Karl Malden, and Sal Mineo.
The film begins in 1878, when the Northern Cheyenne are forcibly relocated from their Montana homeland to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. After several years, the tribe, led by Chief Little Wolf, decides to make the long and dangerous journey back to their homeland. The U.S. government, fearing an Indian uprising, sends a group of cavalry officers, led by Captain Thomas Archer, to intercept the Indians and bring them back to Oklahoma.
The journey back to Montana is fraught with danger and hardship for the Cheyenne. They face hunger, exhaustion, and constant harassment from the cavalry. In addition, they must contend with the harsh winter weather and the threat of starvation. Despite all of this, the Cheyenne remain determined to reach their homeland.
The film follows the struggles of the Cheyenne, as well as the changing attitudes of the cavalry officers. Little Wolf and Archer develop
