Synopsis – What to Expect from “Charlie Bartlett”
Charlie Bartlett is a high school dramedy about a wealthy teenager who attempts to fit in with his classmates by becoming a psychiatrist for his fellow students.
Charlie Bartlett (Anton Yelchin) is an awkward, wealthy teenager who has been expelled from numerous private schools. He enrolls in a public school, where he quickly finds himself an outcast. In an attempt to fit in, he begins to dispense advice to his classmates and quickly becomes the school’s resident psychiatrist.
Meanwhile, Charlie’s father (Robert Downey Jr.) is an alcoholic and is struggling to keep his family together. He’s also the school’s principal, so when he finds out what Charlie is doing, he is less than pleased.
Things get worse for Charlie when he falls for the principal’s daughter, Susan (Kat Dennings). The two embark on a secret relationship, but when Charlie’s best friend, Murphey (Tyler Hilton), discovers their secret, it leads to a confrontation between Charlie and the principal.
The principal forces Charlie to give up his psychiatrist role, but Charlie refuses and instead takes his advice-giving to a whole new level. He begins selling prescription drugs to his classmates, and soon finds himself in over his head.
With the help of Murphey, Charlie must find a way to make things right before his life spirals out of control. In the end, Charlie learns the importance of standing up for what he believes in
