Synopsis – What to Expect from “Cedar Rapids”
Cedar Rapids is a 2011 American comedy-drama film directed by Miguel Arteta and written by Phil Johnston. The film stars Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Anne Heche, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Stephen Root, Kurtwood Smith, and Sigourney Weaver.
The film follows Tim Lippe (Helms), a naive small-town insurance agent, as he attends a convention in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Tim is a sheltered, obedient, and naive man who has never left his small hometown of Brown Valley, Wisconsin. His boss, Bill Krogstad (Root), assigns him to attend the annual insurance convention in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and orders him to come back with a prize.
Upon arriving in Cedar Rapids, Tim is overwhelmed by the big city and his new surroundings. He meets three other insurance agents at the convention: Ronald Wilkes (Reilly), an experienced agent with a wild streak; Joan Ostrowski-Fox (Heche), a highly competitive agent; and Dean Ziegler (Whitlock Jr.), a laid-back agent who enjoys the party life.
The four agents are assigned to a team, and they must compete against other teams in a series of insurance-related activities. Tim struggles to fit in with the other agents, but he eventually starts to come out of his shell and discovers a newfound confidence.
