Synopsis – What to Expect from “Cats”
Cats is a 2019 musical fantasy film based on the 1981 stage musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which in turn was based on the poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.
The film follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, who must make the “Jellicle choice” and decide which one of them will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.
The story centers around a young cat named Victoria, who is taken in by a tribe of Jellicles led by Old Deuteronomy. As she is welcomed into their fold, she is introduced to the eccentric members of the tribe, including the magical Mr. Mistoffelees, the wise and regal Grizabella, and the rambunctious Rum Tum Tugger.
Victoria quickly discovers that the Jellicles have a secret: they are able to transform into their “Jellicle forms” at night, and use their special powers to protect the tribe from the evil Macavity.
As the night of the Jellicle Ball approaches, Victoria must make the difficult decision of whether to stay with the Jellicles or return to her former life. Along the way, she learns valuable lessons about friendship, loyalty, and courage.
