Synopsis/Plot
Cat People is a 1982 horror film directed by Paul Schrader and starring Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell. The film follows Irena Gallier, a young woman who discovers that she is descended from a race of supernatural cat people. Irena’s brother, Paul, explains that their ancestors were cursed with the ability to transform into panthers when aroused by strong emotions. Irena moves to New Orleans and falls in love with a zoologist, Oliver Yates. Together, they explore the dark and mysterious world of the cat people, while Irena struggles with her own inner demons.
As Irena and Oliver’s relationship blossoms, they discover a mysterious cult that worships the cat people and believes in their power to bring evil into the world. The cult’s leader, Alice Perrin, is determined to use Irena and her powers to bring about a new age of darkness. Irena must battle her own inner demons, as well as the cult, in order to protect herself and Oliver from the forces of evil.
