Synopsis – What to Expect from “Captive”
Captive is a dramatic thriller based on a true story that follows the gripping tale of Brian Nichols, a man who escaped from the Fulton County jail in Atlanta, Georgia in 2005 and held Ashley Smith, a single mother, hostage in her own apartment for seven hours.
The film begins with a flashback to the day of Nichols’ escape, showing his desperate attempt to break free from his captors. After successfully escaping, Nichols makes his way to Ashley’s apartment, where he holds her at gunpoint. Despite her initial fear, Ashley is able to form an unexpected bond with Nichols, and over the course of the next seven hours, the two engage in a conversation that leads them both to a better understanding of each other.
As the night progresses, Ashley begins to understand the desperation and loneliness that Nichols has been feeling, and is able to relate to him in a way that no one else has been able to. Meanwhile, the police have been desperately searching for Nichols, and as the night draws to a close, they are finally able to locate him.
When the police arrive at the apartment, Nichols decides to surrender peacefully, and Ashley is able to walk away from the experience with a newfound appreciation for life. Captive is an emotional and powerful story about the power of redemption and the strength of the human spirit.
