Synopsis – What to Expect from “Captain Ron”
Captain Ron is a 1992 American comedy adventure film starring Kurt Russell and Martin Short. The film follows a Chicago-based family who inherits a yacht from the recently deceased uncle, and decide to sail it from the Caribbean island of Saint Martin to Miami.
The family consists of Martin Harvey (Kurt Russell), a middle-aged businessman, his wife Katherine (Mary Kay Place), and their two children, teenager Caroline (Molly Duncan) and pre-teen Benjamin (Thomas Guiry). The family is initially excited about their newfound inheritance, but soon realize that the yacht, called “The Wanderer”, is in a state of disrepair.
Enter Captain Ron (Martin Short), a goofy, eccentric sailor who agrees to help them navigate the yacht to Miami. Despite his eccentricity, Captain Ron proves to be an expert sailor and navigator. Along the way, the family battles storms, pirates, and a host of other obstacles, all while learning to appreciate the beauty of the sea.
The family eventually makes it to Miami, but not before having the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, Martin learns to relax and become more open-minded, while the kids learn to appreciate the wonders of the sea.
