Synopsis/Plot
Captain Phillips is a 2013 American biographical drama-thriller film directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi. The film is based on the true story of the 2009 hijacking of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates.
The film follows the story of Captain Richard Phillips, played by Tom Hanks, as he navigates the hijacking of his cargo ship by a group of Somali pirates. The pirates, led by Abduwali Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi, board the ship and take Phillips and his crew hostage. Phillips attempts to protect his crew by offering himself as a hostage and negotiating with the pirates.
The film follows the events of the hijacking, as the pirates take Phillips and several of his crew hostage, and the US Navy attempts to rescue them. The film culminates in a dramatic showdown between Phillips and Muse, as Phillips attempts to outwit the pirates and escape.
