Synopsis – What to Expect from “Capricorn One”
Capricorn One is a 1977 science fiction thriller film directed by Peter Hyams and starring Elliott Gould, James Brolin, and Sam Waterston. The plot follows three astronauts who are sent on a secret mission to Mars. They discover that the mission is a hoax and the government is trying to cover up the truth.
The story begins with Colonel Peter Willis (Elliott Gould) and his two colleagues, Commander John Walker (James Brolin) and Lieutenant Colonel John Brand (Sam Waterston), being chosen to be the first to embark on a Mars mission. They are told the mission is a top secret government project, and the astronauts are sworn to secrecy.
The three astronauts are trained and prepared for the mission, and eventually they are sent into space. As they approach Mars, they are shocked to discover that the mission is a hoax. The government has faked the mission to cover up a major scientific blunder.
The astronauts are then forced to go along with the deception or face the consequences. They are threatened with death if they reveal the truth.
