Synopsis – What to Expect from “Calendar Girls”
Calendar Girls is a British comedy-drama film released in 2003. It follows the story of a group of middle-aged women in a small Yorkshire village who decide to raise money for a local hospital by creating a nude calendar.
The film follows the women, led by Chris (Helen Mirren) and Annie (Julie Walters), as they come up with the idea of creating a calendar featuring nude photographs of themselves. The women have to battle their own inhibitions and the disapproval of their families as they go ahead with their plan.
The women find a photographer, Lawrence (Philip Glenister), and begin their photo shoot. The women are nervous and awkward at first, but eventually gain confidence and even find themselves having fun.
The calendar is a success and the women become local celebrities. They have to deal with the media attention and the disapproval of some of their more conservative neighbours. The women also face a crisis when one of them is diagnosed with cancer.
However, the women remain strong and their friendship remains unbroken. In the end, they have raised enough money to help the hospital and their story has inspired other women to follow their example.
