Synopsis/Plot
Burn After Reading is a 2008 black comedy directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The film stars George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Brad Pitt.
The film follows the story of Osborne Cox (Malkovich), a recently fired CIA analyst, who decides to write a memoir. His wife, Katie (McDormand), has recently filed for divorce and is having an affair with Harry Pfarrer (Clooney), a federal marshal.
Meanwhile, Linda Litzke (Swinton) and Chad Feldheimer (Pitt) are two gym employees who find a disc containing the memoir in the locker of a member, Ted Treffon (Richard Jenkins). Believing it to be a highly valuable piece of information, they decide to blackmail Cox for money.
However, their attempted blackmailing backfires as Cox refuses to pay them and the CIA become involved. The CIA, led by Palmer (David Rasche), suspect the disc may contain sensitive information and send agents to retrieve it.
The CIA soon discovers that the disc contains nothing of value and the two gym employees are arrested. In the end, the CIA agents decide to simply ”
