Synopsis – What to Expect from “Brown Sugar”
Brown Sugar is a romantic comedy set in New York City. It follows the story of two childhood friends, Sidney (Sanaa Lathan) and Dre (Taye Diggs), who have grown up together and are now adults. Sidney is a successful music executive at a hip-hop label and Dre is a successful magazine editor.
The two have grown apart over the years, but still have a strong friendship. When Sidney discovers a talented young rapper, she decides to sign him to her label. This puts her in direct competition with Dre, who is trying to sign the same rapper for his magazine.
The competition between the two leads to a lot of tension, but also a spark of attraction. As they battle it out to sign the rapper, they find themselves drawn to each other. Despite their differences, they can’t deny the chemistry between them.
Meanwhile, Sidney’s assistant, Kelby (Mos Def), is also struggling with his own romantic feelings for Sidney. He is in love with her, but she is oblivious to his affections.
The film follows the trio as they deal with their love lives and the competition between Sidney and Dre. In the end, they all must decide what is more important to them: their careers or their hearts.
