Synopsis/Plot
Brothers is a 2009 drama film directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Natalie Portman. The film follows the story of two brothers, Sam (Maguire) and Tommy Cahill (Gyllenhaal), as their lives are changed forever when Sam is sent to fight in the war in Afghanistan. Sam is a Marine Corps Captain who is devoted to his family and country, while Tommy is a troubled young man who has been in and out of trouble since he was a teenager.
When Sam is sent to fight in the war, Tommy is left to take care of their family, including their younger sister, Grace (Bailee Madison). As the war progressesTommy struggles to keep the family together and take care of Sam’s wife, Grace (Natalie Portman), who is expecting their first child. Meanwhile, Sam is fighting for his life in the war-torn country. When Sam is wounded and sent home, Tommy must face his own demons and learn to forgive himself for his past mistakes. The brothers must now learn to reconcile their differences and come together as a family. With the help of their family and friends, Sam and Tommy must learn to trust each other and find the strength to move forward.
