Synopsis – What to Expect from “Broken”
Broken is a 2012 British drama film directed by Rufus Norris and written by Mark O’Rowe. The film follows the life of a teenage girl named Skunk, played by Eloise Laurence, who is struggling to cope with the death of her father and her family’s subsequent disintegration.
The film opens with Skunk’s father (Tim Roth) dying in a car accident. Skunk is left to cope with the loss of her father and the emotional turmoil that follows. She finds solace in her friendship with a troubled boy named Rick (Robert Emms), who she meets at school.
Skunk’s mother (Cillian Murphy) is struggling to cope with the death of her husband and finds solace in her affair with a married man. Skunk’s older brother, Jed (Bill Milner), is also struggling to cope with the loss of his father and his mother’s affair.
Skunk’s life is further complicated when Rick’s older brother, Jake (Rory Kinnear), moves in with them. Jake is a violent and unpredictable man who terrorizes the family. Skunk finds herself torn between her loyalty to her family and her growing attraction to Jake.
Skunk’s life is further complicated when she discovers that Jed has been stealing from the family’s business. She also discovers that Jake is involved in a gang and is involved in a violent turf war with a rival gang.
