Synopsis – What to Expect from “Brigsby Bear”
Brigsby Bear is a 2017 American comedy-drama movie directed by Dave McCary and written by Kevin Costello and Kyle Mooney. The movie stars Kyle Mooney, Mark Hamill, Claire Danes, Greg Kinnear, and Matt Walsh.
The movie follows James Pope (Kyle Mooney), a 25-year-old man who has spent his entire life living in an underground bunker with his parents Ted and April (Matt Walsh and Michaela Watkins). His only source of entertainment and education has been a children’s television show called “Brigsby Bear Adventures”, which his parents have created for him.
One day, James is rescued by the police and discovers that he is actually an abducted child who was kidnapped as an infant. He is reunited with his birth family, including his sister Aubrey (Ryan Simpkins), and learns that the outside world is a very different place than he had imagined.
James is determined to finish the story of Brigsby Bear, and sets out to make a movie to complete the series. With the help of his new friends, including Detective Vogel (Greg Kinnear) and Spencer (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), James begins to make his movie.
He also begins to adjust to life outside the bunker and makes connections with his family, including his father Greg (Mark Hamill). Along the way, James learns important lessons about friendship, family, and life itself.
