Synopsis – What to Expect from “Bright Star”
Bright Star is a 2009 British-French-Australian biographical drama film directed by Jane Campion.
The movie tells the story of the love affair between English poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, which began in 1818 and lasted until Keats’ death in 1821.
The movie begins in 1818, when the 23-year-old John Keats is introduced to Fanny Brawne, a fashion-conscious 18-year-old. The two quickly become close friends, and eventually fall in love. Despite their age difference and Fanny’s lack of education, they share a deep and passionate love for each other.
Fanny’s parents disapprove of the relationship, and try to keep them apart by sending Fanny away. Despite the distance, the two remain in contact through letters, and their love only grows stronger.
Meanwhile, Keats’ career as a poet is taking off, and he is invited to stay with the wealthy Charles Brown. The two become close friends, but Brown is jealous of Keats’ relationship with Fanny.
Keats eventually returns to Fanny, and the two are reunited. They spend a blissful summer together, but Keats’ health is failing, and he is diagnosed with tuberculosis.
Fanny nurses him back to health, and the two remain devoted to each other until Keats’ death in 1821. The movie ends with Fanny mourning her lost love
