Synopsis – What to Expect from “Brigadoon”
Brigadoon is a 1954 musical fantasy film directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse.
The film follows two American tourists, Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson), who stumble upon the mysterious Scottish village of Brigadoon while on a hunting trip. The village appears out of the mist only once every hundred years, and the inhabitants are still living in the 18th century.
Tommy and Jeff soon learn that Brigadoon is under a magical spell, and that the villagers will be cursed to an eternity of slumber unless two strangers fall in love with each other and pledge to stay in the village forever.
Tommy falls in love with Fiona Campbell (Cyd Charisse), the daughter of the village elder, and Jeff falls for the local tavern keeper’s daughter, Jean MacLaren (Elaine Stewart). However, Fiona is already engaged to marry the village blacksmith, Charlie Dalrymple (Barry Jones), and Jean is in love with a young man from the nearby village of Glenclaren.
Tommy and Jeff must find a way to make their love for Fiona and Jean strong enough to break the spell and save Brigadoon from destruction.
