The story follows Will (Jude Law), a British landscape architect who moves to London with his Swedish partner Liv (Robin Wright) and their daughter Bea (Poppy Rogers). Will and Liv’s relationship is strained and they are struggling to reconnect.
Will meets Amira (Juliette Binoche), a Bosnian refugee who works in a local dry cleaners. Will and Amira form a friendship and he begins to help her with her immigration problems. Meanwhile, Will discovers that his office is being burgled and he begins to investigate.

As Will’s investigation progresses, his relationship with Amira deepens and he begins to fall in love with her. This further complicates his already strained relationship with Liv.
Will’s investigation leads him to a shocking discovery – Miro and his gang are actually refugees from Bosnia, and the burglaries are a desperate attempt to make money. Will is faced with a difficult decision – should he turn them in to the police or help them?
