Synopsis/Plot
Breakfast on Pluto is a 2005 Irish-British comedy-drama film directed by Neil Jordan and starring Cillian Murphy as a transgender foundling searching for love and her long-lost mother in small-town Ireland and London during the Troubles.
The film follows Patrick “Kitten” Braden, a transgender foundling, as she leaves her small Irish town in search of her mother. Along the way she meets a variety of colorful characters, including a magician, a priest, a prostitute, and a gay couple. She also finds herself entangled in a series of events that involve the IRA, a missing person, and a bomb plot.
Kitten’s journey is full of humor, heartache, and hope as she searches for her place in the world. Along the way, she learns to accept and love herself, despite the bigotry and misunderstanding that surrounds her.
The film features an eclectic soundtrack featuring music from the likes of David Bowie, The Smiths, The Cure, and The Pogues. The film also features an acclaimed performance from Cillian Murphy, who is widely praised for his portrayal of Kitten.
