Synopsis – What to Expect from “Breach”
Breach is a 2007 American thriller film directed by Billy Ray and starring Chris Cooper, Ryan Phillippe, and Laura Linney. The film is based on the true story of FBI operative Robert Hanssen, who was arrested in 2001 for spying for the Soviet Union.
The story follows Eric O’Neill (Phillippe), a young FBI computer specialist assigned to work as the assistant to Robert Hanssen (Cooper), a senior agent with a distinguished career in the bureau. O’Neill is tasked with finding out whether Hanssen is selling classified information to foreign governments.
O’Neill is initially suspicious of Hanssen’s behavior and begins to suspect that he is involved in espionage. As he investigates further, O’Neill discovers evidence that Hanssen has indeed been passing confidential information to the Soviets. He then must find a way to prove it without alerting Hanssen to his suspicions.
The film follows O’Neill as he attempts to uncover the truth about Hanssen and his activities. Along the way, he must face his own doubts and fears as he is forced to confront a powerful and dangerous man.
The tension builds as O’Neill gets closer to the truth and Hanssen becomes increasingly suspicious of O’Neill’s motives. In the end, O’Neill is able to prove Hanssen’s guilt and the FBI is able to apprehend him. The film ends with O’Neill reflecting on his experience and the importance of doing the right thing
