Boy Erased tells the story of Jared Eamons, the son of a Baptist preacher in a small American town, who is outed to his parents at age 19. Struggling with his own identity, Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith.
Faced with an uncertain future, Jared reluctantly joins the program and is forced to confront his inner demons and the harsh realities of his conservative upbringing. Along the way, Jared comes into conflict with its leader, and begins his journey to finding his own voice and accepting his true self.
The film stars Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, and Joel Edgerton, and is directed by Edgerton. It is based on the memoir of the same name by Garrard Conley.
