Synopsis/Plot
Blue Jasmine is a 2013 American black comedy-drama film written and directed by Woody Allen. The film stars Cate Blanchett as a New York socialite who is forced to move into her estranged sister’s humble apartment in San Francisco after her husband’s financial scandal leaves her destitute.
The film follows Jasmine as she struggles to adjust to her new life, while trying to come to terms with her husband’s betrayal and her own insecurities. As she attempts to regain her social status, Jasmine’s mental stability begins to unravel, and she is forced to confront her past and the mistakes she has made.
Blue Jasmine is a gripping, character-driven drama, exploring themes of identity, class, and the human condition. Blanchett’s performance is outstanding, and she is supported by an excellent cast, including Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard, Sally Hawkins and Louis C.K.
The film is beautifully shot, with a great use of music to evoke the mood and atmosphere of the movie. The film is both funny and heartbreaking, and is ultimately a powerful exploration of the human condition.
