Synopsis – What to Expect from “Blindspotting”
Blindspotting is a 2018 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Carlos López Estrada. The film stars Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, who also wrote the screenplay.
The story follows Collin (Diggs), a black man on probation, and his best friend Miles (Casal), a white man, as they navigate the last three days of Collin’s probation in their rapidly gentrifying Oakland, California.
The film starts with Collin and Miles, two lifelong friends, who are riding in the back of a moving truck. As they drive through the streets of Oakland, they witness a police officer shoot a black man. Collin is shaken by the incident and begins to reflect on his own identity and the state of his hometown.
The next day, Collin meets with his probation officer and learns that if he can stay out of trouble for the next three days, he will be done with probation. However, Collin’s best friend Miles is determined to get him into trouble. Miles is reckless and doesn’t think of the consequences of his actions, which puts Collin in a difficult situation.
The two friends then go out for a night on the town, where they run into some old friends. Collin is tempted to join in on their partying, but he knows that he must stay out of trouble or he will be sent back to jail.
