Synopsis/Plot

Blade of the 47 Ronin is a 2013 Japanese fantasy action film directed by Takashi Miike. It is based on the story of the 47 Ronin, a group of samurai who avenge their master’s death in 18th century Japan. The film stars Ko Shibasaki, Takayuki Yamada, and Shun Oguri.

The story follows a young man named Kai (Yamada) who is the son of a disgraced samurai. After his father’s death, Kai is taken in by the master of the Ako clan, Lord Asano (Koji Yakusho). Asano is betrayed by the powerful Lord Kira (Goro Inagaki) and is forced to commit seppuku, leavingKai and the other Ako samurai loyal to Asano are cast out of their homes and become ronin. Kai is taken in by the leader of the 47 ronin, Oishi (Hiroki Matsukata), who swears to avenge Asano’s death. The 47 ronin plan an elaborate scheme to infiltrate Kira’s castle and exact revenge. Along the way, Kai meets Mika (Shibasaki), a beautiful half-breed who helps him on his quest. With the help of Mika, Kai and the 47 ronin succeed in their mission and restore honor to the Ako clan.
