Synopsis – What to Expect from “Blackmail”
Blackmail is a British thriller film released in 1929. It is directed by Alfred Hitchcock and stars Anny Ondra, John Longden, and Cyril Ritchard.
The film follows Alice White, a young woman living in London. She is dating Frank Webber, a Scotland Yard detective. One night, Alice is invited to the studio of an artist named Mr. Crewe. When she arrives, she is shocked to discover that he is actually an old acquaintance from her past. She is embarrassed by her presence and leaves quickly.
On her way home, Alice is followed by a mysterious man. She eventually loses him, but is then attacked in an alley by a different man. She manages to fight him off and runs away.
The next day, Alice discovers that the man who attacked her was actually Mr. Crewe. He had followed her in order to blackmail her. He threatens to tell Frank about her past if she does not pay him.
Alice is desperate and does not know what to do. She confides in her friend, a young man named Tracy. He offers to help her and they plan to get the money from Crewe.
Alice and Tracy meet with Crewe and demand the money. However, he refuses and a fight ensues. During the commotion, Alice grabs a knife and stabs Crewe. He dies and Alice and Tracy flee the scene.
