Synopsis – What to Expect from “Black or White”
Black or White is a 2014 drama film directed by Mike Binder and starring Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Gillian Jacobs, Anthony Mackie, and Bill Burr. The film follows a grieving widower named Elliot Anderson (Costner) who is struggling to raise his biracial granddaughter Eloise (Jillian Estell) after the death of his wife.
The story begins with Elliot and Eloise’s mother, Rowena (Jacobs), a struggling single mother with a drug addiction. After Rowena’s death, Elliot and Eloise are left alone, and Elliot is determined to raise Eloise on his own. However, Rowena’s family, led by her grandmother, Reggie (Spencer), come forward to take custody of Eloise.
Elliot and Reggie are locked in a bitter legal battle over Eloise’s custody. Elliot is determined to keep Eloise in his care, while Reggie believes Eloise should be raised in her own family. As the legal battle rages on, Elliot and Reggie come to understand each other’s perspectives, and they gradually develop a mutual respect for one another.
The story culminates with a trial to decide Eloise’s fate. Elliot and Reggie both make passionate arguments in court, and the judge ultimately decides that Eloise should stay with Elliot. In the end, Elliot and Reggie come to terms with their differences and form a bond with each other.
