Synopsis – What to Expect from “Black Caesar”
Black Caesar is a 1973 American blaxploitation crime drama film directed by Larry Cohen and starring Fred Williamson. It follows the story of Tommy Gibbs, a young African American man who rises up through the ranks of the New York City mob.
The film opens with Tommy Gibbs (Fred Williamson) as a young man growing up in the slums of Harlem. Despite the poverty of his surroundings, Tommy is determined to make something of himself, and he soon finds himself in the employ of the local mob boss, Don Corrado (Art Lund). Don Corrado takes a liking to Tommy and quickly promotes him to the rank of lieutenant.
Tommy quickly rises through the ranks and begins to make a name for himself as the “Black Caesar”. He uses his newfound power to gain control of the local drug trade and begins to expand his criminal empire. However, his success soon attracts the attention of the police, who begin to investigate his activities.
Meanwhile, Tommy’s personal life is in turmoil. He is in love with a beautiful woman named Helen (Gloria Hendry), but her father is determined to keep them apart. Tommy must also contend with a rival mob boss, Little Caesar (Julius Harris), who is determined to take over the drug trade and eliminate Tommy.
