Synopsis – What to Expect from “Bird”
Bird is a biographical drama set in the 1950s about the life of jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker (Forest Whitaker).
The film begins with a montage of Parker’s childhood, showing his early interest in music and his family’s struggles with poverty. We then follow Parker as he moves to New York City to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional jazz musician.
Parker quickly finds success in the jazz scene, and his unique style of playing is admired by fellow musicians and audiences alike. However, Parker’s success is accompanied by a growing addiction to drugs and alcohol, and his life starts to spiral out of control.
The film follows Parker’s struggles with his addiction, as well as his attempts to stay sober and continue making music. He eventually finds a mentor in Dizzy Gillespie (Samuel L. Jackson), who helps him to focus on his music and stay away from drugs.
Parker’s efforts eventually pay off, and he becomes a celebrated jazz musician. However, his addiction continues to haunt him, and he eventually dies from a drug overdose.
The film ends with a montage of Parker’s life, showing his rise to fame and his influence on the jazz scene. It serves as a tribute to the musician, and a reminder of the power of music.
