Synopsis/Plot
Benediction is a powerful and moving drama about a small town pastor, Father Burke (Robert Duvall), who is struggling to come to terms with his faith and his mortality. Father Burke is a man of great faith and conviction, but he is also facing a terminal illness and is struggling to make sense of his life and his faith in the face of death. As he confronts his mortality, he is also forced to confront his own shortcomings and to question his beliefs.
The film follows Father Burke as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, visiting his estranged daughter (Kerry Bishé) and former parishioners, and reconnecting with his past. Along the way, he faces difficult decisions and difficult conversations, and he must learn to forgive himself and to accept his fate. As he does so, he finds solace in the beauty of nature and in the simple kindness of others.
Benediction is a deeply moving and thoughtful exploration of faith, mortality, and forgiveness. Robert Duvall gives a powerful and nuanced performance as Father Burke, and the film is beautifully shot, with stunning cinematography that captures the beauty of the natural world. The film also features an excellent supporting cast
