Synopsis – What to Expect from “Bend of the River”
Bend of the River is a 1952 American Western film directed by Anthony Mann and starring James Stewart as a former outlaw who helps settlers in Oregon.
The story begins with a group of settlers heading west in search of a new life. At the helm is Glyn McLyntock (Stewart), a former outlaw who is trying to make a fresh start. Along the way, he meets a young man named Emerson Cole (Arthur Kennedy), who is on his way to Oregon to start a new life.
Glyn and Emerson decide to join forces and continue their journey together. When they arrive in Oregon, they find the settlement is under the thumb of a ruthless land baron, J.W. Grant (Rock Hudson). Grant has his own plans for the land, and is determined to keep the settlers out.
Glyn and Emerson join forces with the settlers and devise a plan to outwit Grant and gain access to the land. With the help of a local Indian tribe, they are able to overpower Grant and his men and gain access to the land.
However, their victory is short-lived as Grant is determined to get revenge and reclaim the land. He hires a gang of outlaws to go after Glyn and Emerson, but they are able to outwit the gang and make it to the bend of the river.
