Synopsis/Plot
Ben-Hur is an epic historical drama film released in 1959. It tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince from Jerusalem who is betrayed and falsely accused of treason by his childhood friend Messala. After being sent into slavery, Ben-Hur is determined to exact revenge upon Messala and reclaim his freedom.
The film follows Ben-Hur’s journey as he rises from slavery to become a champion chariot racer and a wealthy prince. Along the way, he encounters a variety of characters, including Jesus Christ and his disciples, who have a profound impact on his life.
The film is known for its dramatic chariot race scene, which was shot over a six-month period and cost a then-unprecedented $1 million. The film was directed by William Wyler and stars Charlton Heston as Ben-Hur, Stephen Boyd as Messala, and Jack Hawkins as Quintus Arrius.
Ben-Hur won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor, and is considered one of the greatest films of all time.
