Synopsis/Plot
Being John Malkovich is a 1999 dark fantasy comedy-drama film directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman. The film stars John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and John Malkovich.
The film follows Craig Schwartz (John Cusack), a puppeteer who discovers a portal into the mind of actor John Malkovich (portrayed by himself). After entering the portal, Craig finds himself in Malkovich’s body for 15 minutes before being ejected onto the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.
Craig eventually discovers that he can control Malkovich’s body and use it to his own advantage. He begins charging people to experience being John Malkovich for a few minutes at a time. Meanwhile, his wife, Lotte (Cameron Diaz), develops a romantic obsession with Malkovich after entering the portal.
The film explores themes of identity, duality, and the nature of reality. It is a unique and thought-provoking exploration of the human condition. With its absurdist humor and surrealistic visuals, Being John Malkovich is an unforgettable experience.
