Synopsis – What to Expect from “Beat Street”
Beat Street is a 1984 American drama film featuring New York City’s burgeoning hip hop culture of the early 1980s, breakdancing, DJing, and graffiti.
The film follows Kenny, a young graffiti artist from the South Bronx who dreams of becoming a professional breakdancer. He and his best friend, Ramon, form a breakdancing crew called the “New York City Breakers” and practice in an abandoned subway station. Kenny’s brother, Lee, is a DJ who spins records at the local club and is a mentor to Kenny and Ramon.
Kenny meets a young dancer named Tracy, whom he falls in love with. She introduces him to the world of professional breakdancing and helps him to realize his dream. Meanwhile, a rival breakdancing crew, the “Savage Skulls,” threatens to take over the local club and challenge the New York City Breakers.
The New York City Breakers and the Savage Skulls face off in a breakdancing battle at the club, and Kenny and Tracy perform a spectacular routine. The New York City Breakers win the battle and Kenny and Tracy become a couple.
Kenny’s brother Lee is offered an opportunity to tour with a famous DJ, but he turns it down to stay with his family. Kenny and Ramon also turn down offers to join professional breakdancing crews.
The film ends with Kenny and Tracy getting married and the New York City
