Synopsis – What to Expect from “Beach Rats”
Beach Rats follows the story of nineteen year-old Frankie, a restless Brooklyn teen who is trying to find his place in the world. He spends his days hanging out with his friends at the beach, smoking pot, and flirting with older men online. But when his online hookups start to escalate, he is forced to confront his own sexuality and the pressures of the world around him.
The story begins with Frankie and his friends spending their summer days at the beach, drinking and smoking pot. One day, Frankie meets a girl named Simone who he quickly develops a crush on. He begins to spend more time with her, but is still drawn to his online hookups. As his online encounters become more intense, he starts to question his sexuality and his place in the world.
Meanwhile, Frankie’s father is struggling with his own issues. He is dealing with a terminal illness and is trying to come to terms with his mortality. Frankie’s mother is also struggling with her own issues, as she is dealing with the death of her daughter and the fact that her son is struggling with his sexuality.
As Frankie’s conflicts with his family and his own identity become more intense, he begins to drift further away from his friends and his family. He eventually finds himself in a dark place, and is forced to confront his own fears and insecurities.
The movie culminates in a powerful climax as Frankie is forced to make a difficult decision about his future
