Synopsis – What to Expect from “Bathory: Countess of Blood”
Bathory: Countess of Blood is a 2008 historical horror film set in 16th century Hungary. It stars Anna Friel as Elizabeth Bathory, a beautiful but ruthless noblewoman who is said to have bathed in the blood of virgins to retain her youth.
The film begins with Elizabeth’s childhood, growing up in a castle with her father and brother. She is a strong-willed young woman who loves to hunt and ride horses. When her father dies, she is sent to the court of King Matthias II of Hungary to be a lady in waiting.
At court, Elizabeth is courted by a handsome young prince, Ferenc Nádasdy. They marry and have a son. Elizabeth is soon bored with court life and longs for more power. She begins to dabble in witchcraft and black magic, learning to use her powers to manipulate people.
When Ferenc is sent away to fight in a war, Elizabeth begins to take her revenge on those who have wronged her. She begins to lure young women to her castle and kills them, believing that bathing in their blood will keep her young.
As news of her crimes spreads, Elizabeth finds herself hunted by the King’s men. She is eventually captured and put on trial for her crimes. After a lengthy trial, Elizabeth is found guilty and sentenced to death.
The film ends with Elizabeth’s execution, showing her final moments as she accepts
