Synopsis – What to Expect from “BASEketball”
BASEketball is a 1998 sports-comedy movie starring South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The movie follows two childhood friends, Joe “Coop” Cooper (Parker) and Doug Remer (Stone), who invent a new game called “BASEketball” after being unable to afford tickets to a professional basketball game. The game quickly catches on and soon becomes a nationwide phenomenon.
The two friends form the first professional BASEketball team, the Milwaukee Beers, and hire a washed-up former basketball star, Teddy Sakai (Yasmine Bleeth), as their coach. They face an uphill battle as they compete against the established teams of the National BASEketball League (NBL), led by the powerful and ruthless owner of the Dallas Felons, Ted Denslow (Robert Vaughn).
As the Beers battle their way through the NBL, they face off against the Felons in a climactic championship game. With the help of some unlikely allies, Coop and Doug must find a way to beat the Felons and prove that BASEketball is the sport of the future.
Along the way, the movie also explores the themes of friendship and loyalty, as Coop and Doug’s friendship is put to the test by the pressures of fame and success. BASEketball is a hilarious and heartwarming story of two friends who set out to prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
