Synopsis – What to Expect from “Bananas”
Bananas is a 1971 comedy directed by and starring Woody Allen. It follows the story of Fielding Mellish (Allen), a nerdy, neurotic New Yorker who is dumped by his girlfriend and decides to take a vacation to the fictional Latin American nation of San Marcos.
Upon arriving, Fielding quickly finds himself in the middle of a revolution. He is mistaken for a revolutionary leader and is soon leading a rag-tag group of rebels in their fight against the oppressive government. Along the way, Fielding also falls in love with a beautiful revolutionary leader, played by Louise Lasser.
The movie follows Fielding and his rebels as they battle the government forces. Along the way, Fielding learns to become a leader and finds the courage to stand up for what he believes in. In the end, Fielding and his rebels are triumphant and Fielding is reunited with his love.
