Synopsis – What to Expect from “Badlands”
Badlands is a 1973 American crime drama film directed by Terrence Malick and starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. Set in South Dakota in 1959, the film follows two young lovers, Kit and Holly, as they embark on a crime spree across the Midwest.
The film opens with an introduction to the two main characters, Kit (Martin Sheen) and Holly (Sissy Spacek). Kit is a 25-year-old garbage collector, living with his father in a small town in South Dakota. Holly is an impressionable 15-year-old girl, living with her father and stepmother. Kit and Holly quickly fall in love, and despite the disapproval of Holly’s family, they decide to run away together.
Kit and Holly steal a car and make their way to Montana, where they begin a crime spree. They rob convenience stores, gas stations, and banks, and their exploits soon become the stuff of local legend. Despite their growing notoriety, Kit and Holly remain blissfully unaware of the consequences of their actions.
Meanwhile, Holly’s father hires a bounty hunter to track down the couple and bring them back. As the police and the bounty hunter close in on Kit and Holly, the couple’s relationship begins to unravel. Kit’s violent temper and Holly’s naivete lead to a series of dangerous confrontations, culminating in a deadly shootout.
