Synopsis/Plot
Atonement is a 2007 romantic drama film directed by Joe Wright and adapted from the 2001 novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. The film stars Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The film follows the story of a young girl named Briony Tallis, who witnesses a moment between her older sister Cecilia and Robbie Turner, the son of the family’s housekeeper. Briony incorrectly believes that Robbie is taking advantage of her sister and tells a lie that changes the lives of all involved forever.
The story is set during the summer of 1935 in England, and follows the lives of the Tallis family and the people around them. The film follows the consequences of Briony’s lie, as well as the effects of World War II, which affects the lives of the characters in different ways.
