Synopsis – What to Expect from “At First Sight”
At First Sight is a romantic drama directed by Irwin Winkler and released in 1999. It stars Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino as two people who meet and fall in love despite their physical disabilities.
The story follows Virgil Adamson (Val Kilmer), a blind masseur living in New York City. One day, he meets Amy Benic (Mira Sorvino), a successful architect who is slowly going blind due to a degenerative eye condition. Despite their differences, the two quickly fall in love.
Virgil introduces Amy to the world of the visually impaired, and she slowly learns to adjust to her new way of life. With Virgil’s help, she discovers a newfound strength within herself and a newfound appreciation for life.
However, their relationship is tested when Amy’s vision begins to deteriorate faster than expected. She is faced with the difficult decision of whether to undergo a risky eye surgery that may restore her sight, or to accept her condition and stay with Virgil.
Ultimately, Amy decides to have the surgery, and it is successful. She regains her sight, but their relationship is strained, as Virgil worries that she will no longer need him. However, Amy reassures him that, even though she can now see, she still needs him and loves him just as much as before.
The film ends with Virgil and Amy embracing, and they live happily ever after.
