Synopsis – What to Expect from “ANYA”
ANYA is a coming-of-age drama set in a rural Ukrainian village in the early 1950s. It follows the story of Anya, a young girl who has been left with her grandmother while her parents go off to fight in the war. Despite the hardship and deprivation of the times, Anya finds solace in her grandmother’s love, and in the beauty of the countryside.
Anya’s life is turned upside down when her grandmother passes away, leaving her alone in the village. As she struggles to survive, she meets a young boy named Volodya and the two form a strong bond. With his help, Anya learns to fend for herself and begins to find joy in her life again.
When the war ends and Anya’s parents return home, they bring with them a stranger who claims to be a relative of Anya’s grandmother. Anya is suspicious of this man, and soon discovers that he is actually a criminal who has come to steal her grandmother’s property. Anya and Volodya must find a way to protect the property and themselves from this man.
Anya and Volodya eventually succeed in thwarting the criminal’s plan, and in the process, they learn valuable lessons about courage and friendship. In the end, Anya is reunited with her parents and is able to keep the property, allowing her to remain in the village and live a happy life with Volodya.
