Synopsis – What to Expect from “Annie”
Annie is a 1999 musical comedy-drama film based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The film follows the story of Annie, a young orphan living in a New York City orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. The orphanage is visited by the wealthy businessman and mayoral candidate, Oliver Warbucks. Warbucks decides to bring Annie to his mansion for the Christmas holidays, and then decides to adopt her.
Miss Hannigan, however, is determined to get her hands on the reward money that Warbucks is offering for Annie’s parents. She enlists the help of her brother, Rooster, and his girlfriend, Lily St. Regis, to con Warbucks.
Meanwhile, Annie befriends Warbucks’ faithful secretary, Grace Farrell, and his lovable dog, Sandy. She also meets President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor, who are impressed by her spirit and determination.
As the plot progresses, Warbucks discovers that Annie’s parents are dead and decides to make her his legal heir. Miss Hannigan and her cohorts, however, are determined to ruin Warbucks’ plan to adopt Annie.
In the end, Warbucks and Annie are able to outsmart Miss Hannigan and her cohorts and Warbucks adopts Annie. With the help of her new family, Annie is able to find the happiness she has been searching for.
