Synopsis – What to Expect from “And the Band Played On”
And the Band Played On is a 1993 American docudrama film directed by Roger Spottiswoode. The film chronicles the early days of the AIDS epidemic in the United States.
The film follows the stories of several individuals affected by the virus, including a gay activist (Matthew Modine), a doctor (Alan Alda), and a French-Canadian flight attendant (Ian McKellen). It also chronicles the efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and the gay community to identify and contain the virus.
The film begins in the early 1980s, when the first cases of AIDS were reported in San Francisco and New York. As the virus spreads, the CDC and the gay community become increasingly concerned.
