Synopsis – What to Expect from “And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself”
And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself is a 2003 HBO film directed by Bruce Beresford. The film tells the story of the legendary Mexican revolutionary, Pancho Villa, and his involvement in the Mexican Revolution of the early 20th century.
The film begins with a young Pancho Villa (Antonio Banderas) leading a band of rebels in the Mexican Revolution. He and his band have been fighting for the rights of the Mexican people, and his fame is beginning to spread.
Meanwhile, in the United States, the film producer, D.W. Griffith (Eion Bailey), is looking for a new project. He is intrigued by the stories of Pancho Villa and his exploits and decides to make a movie about him. He sends his assistant, Frank Thayer (Colm Feore), to Mexico to meet with Villa and convince him to star in the movie.
Villa is initially hesitant, but eventually agrees. He and his men are brought to Los Angeles to film the movie, which is based on the events of the Mexican Revolution. During the filming, Villa and his men become accustomed to the American lifestyle and even become friendly with the cast and crew.
At the same time, Villa is still a revolutionary at heart and his loyalty to his cause never wavers. He is determined to use the movie to spread his message of freedom and justice to the world.
