Synopsis/Plot

American Made is a 2017 American biographical crime comedy-drama film directed by Doug Liman and written by Gary Spinelli. The film stars Tom Cruise as Barry Seal, a former TWA pilot who became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel in the 1980s.

The film follows Seal’s career as a pilot for TWA and his subsequent recruitment by the CIA to fly reconnaissance missions over Central America. Seal is then recruited by the Medellín Cartel to smuggle drugs into the United States. As Seal’s career as a drug smuggler progresses, he is caught up in the Iran-Contra affair and is forced to work with the DEA to avoid prison time.

The film is basedon a true story and is set in the 1980s. It was released in the United States on August 25, 2017. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Cruise’s performance and Liman’s direction. The film grossed over $134 million worldwide and received a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 75th Golden Globe Awards.
