Synopsis/Plot
American Gangster is a 2007 crime drama film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. It is based on the true story of Frank Lucas, a gangster from Harlem who became one of the most powerful drug kingpins in the United States in the 1970s.
Lucas is portrayed as a small-time hustler who rises to power by taking advantage of the heroin trade during the Vietnam War. He starts by smuggling drugs in the body bags of American soldiers returning from the war, and quickly becomes the leader of a large-scale drug trafficking operation. He uses his wealth and power to gain influence and respect in the criminal underworld, and even manages to elude the police and FBI.
MeanwhileMeanwhile, Richie Roberts, an honest but disillusioned police detective, is determined to bring Lucas down. Roberts begins to investigate Lucas’ activities, and soon finds himself in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the powerful drug lord. As Roberts gets closer to Lucas and his empire, Lucas realizes that he must take drastic measures to protect himself and his business. In the end, Lucas is brought to justice, while Roberts is hailed as a hero.
