Synopsis/Plot
Amadeus is a 1984 American period drama film directed by Miloš Forman, adapted by Peter Shaffer from his stage play of the same name. It tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the most influential and celebrated composers of all time, and his intense and complex rivalry with court composer Antonio Salieri. The film stars F. Murray Abraham as Salieri and Tom Hulce as Mozart, with Elizabeth Berridge, Roy Dotrice, Jeffrey Jones, and Simon Callow in supporting roles.
The film follows Mozart from the time he arrives in Vienna in 1781, through to his death in 1791. The story focuses on his struggles to gain recognition from the court of Emperor Joseph II, and his envy of the court composer Salieri. Amadeus is a highly stylized and highly fictionalized retelling of the life of Mozart, which is based on the claims of Salieri that he poisoned Mozart out of jealousy.
The film is framed as a flashback, as an elderly Salieri recounts his story to a priest. The film is filled with vibrant costumes, lavish sets, and beautiful music, all of which help to create the atmosphere of 18th
