Synopsis – What to Expect from “Always Shine”
Always Shine is a psychological thriller directed by Sophia Takal that follows two friends, Beth (Caitlin FitzGerald) and Anna (Mackenzie Davis). Beth is an aspiring actress who is constantly outshined by her more successful friend, Anna. Anna is a successful actress who has had several roles in big-budget films, while Beth is struggling to make it in the business.
The movie begins with the two friends taking a trip to Big Sur, in hopes of rekindling their friendship. However, the tension between them is palpable, as Beth is constantly envious of Anna’s success. As the two women take in the beauty of Big Sur, the tension between them only grows.
Things begin to take a turn for the worse when the two women arrive at a fancy hotel. Beth begins to feel increasingly jealous of Anna, and the two women soon find themselves in an intense argument. During the argument, Beth begins to reveal her true feelings of envy and resentment towards Anna.
The tension between the two women reaches a boiling point when they go out for a night on the town. When Anna meets a man at the bar, Beth becomes increasingly jealous and enraged. She begins to lash out at Anna, and the two women soon find themselves in a physical altercation.
The altercation is broken up by the police, and the two women are taken to the hospital. There, Beth begins to realize the extent of her envy and resentment towards Anna
